Features and Benefits

I love pasta and one of the first things I learned to make was spaghetti sauce.  I have always loved the aroma of sauce simmering on the stove.  I promised to share my recipe with fellow Realtors, Lisa, Natalie and Chris Zastrow.  So Tuesday, we got in my kitchen and made meatballs and sauce.

So what does pasta have to do with real estate?  Well, when George and I were first looking a homes, one of things I desired in a home was a large kitchen. When looking at homes, we sometimes get stuck on the features we are looking to find.  But we need to focus on the benefits. For instance when we purchased our home:

Feature: La Canada School District
Benefit:  Excellent Public School Education without the expense of private school.

Feature: 5 bedrooms
Benefit:  My daughters were less than a year apart and I worked full time.  I wanted a guest room for my parents, and an extra bedroom for live in help.

Feature: Large Kitchen
Benefit: Plenty of room to cook.  We host most of our family holiday dinners.

Feature:  Pool or room for a pool
Benefit: Stay at home recreation and relaxation.

Purchasing a home is personal, you are buying a lifestyle.  Do you enjoy elegant entertaining or do you prefer a more casual setting?

Another thing to keep in mind is whether your family is expanding or in the near future will family members be moving out?
