Do cedar closets really work?

We’ll get to October’s real estate statistics in the next day or so.  But first I want to dispel a myth: cedar closets don’t work well at preventing moths.

When my husband, George and I bought our current residence, it was a major fixer.  One of the improvements we made was to line our master bedroom closet with cedar.  Seemed like it would be a great improvement.   One aspect about cedar is that in order to continue repelling moths, it needs to be refreshed or lightly sanded.

Earlier this year, I emptied the entire closet and donated a lot of clothes.  And, at this time I had the handyman, sand the cedar.  Recently, I grabbed a cashmere sweater from my closet and it had a moth hole.

Unless one of my blog readers can share a different experience it’s time for me to get out the mothballs.
