A week in the life of Los Angeles Real Estate Agent
Each Realtor has their own business philosophy. I know real estate agents who cold call (unsolicited phone calls), door knock or contact owners whose listing have expired, for several hours each day. They are always on the lookout for new business.
Most of my business comes from past clients and their referrals, and most of the remainder from the Internet, my blog or web sites. Monday through Friday, I spend a couple of hours each day following up on escrows to be certain that contingencies are removed in a timely manner, that the loan process is progressing, reviewing reports and disclosures, etc. I follow up on feedback from past showings and if a listing is not selling try to determine how else I can creatively market it.
Realtors often work seven days a week, but we don't necessarily have appointments each day. Daily, I check the MLS (multiple listing service) for new listings and/or price reductions for my current buyers and competition for my listings. I also contact past clients to see how they have settled. Some days I don’t have any outside appointments and don’t really see anyone but Lisa. August is generally a quiet month (lots of vacations and back to school preparations). Let’s take a look at this week’s appointments:
Monday: Listing appointment, Final Walk Through in La Crescenta, Dinner at Taylor’s Steak House in La Canada with past client and friend. Lisa had a physical inspection for her new escrow.
Tuesday: Broker Caravan day for La Canada and La Crescenta
Wednesday: Broker Caravan day for Glendale
Thursday: No appointments for me (or Lisa), just some office paperwork and some follow up with past clients. I take George’s aunt to the market once a week and knowing that I had a fairly full weekend decided to sneak away for an hour to take her to Fresh and Easy.
Friday: I met a friend for lunch at Glendale’s Far Niente (she cleaned her closet and had several bags of clothes for my favorite charity, the Glendale YWCA). Closed an escrow and met my client to give her keys for her new home in La Crescenta. Met another client/friend for dinner at Glendale’s Oakmont Country Club.
Scheduled:
Saturday: I am on the Board of Directors for the Glendale YWCA and we have our annual retreat which is from morning to mid afternoon.
Sunday: One listing appointment then an Open House at 3430 Figueroa, 2-4 PM, Celebrity Gated Retreat in Glendale Stop by and say hello!
