Something is always broken at my home!

Owning a home requires more of a financial commitment than just making your mortgage payment.  There is ongoing routine maintenance and sometimes the dreaded unexpected repairs.

As it has been several years since I had my home inspected for termites, I decided to contact Tri-Pacific Termite Company for an inspection. Results: termites (lots of termites), and water leaking under the house.

I contacted my plumber, John Marriott who located a broken pipe in the wall near the kitchen sink.  That repaired, I then contacted Handy Fred to patch the drywall (otherwise I might get critters coming into my kitchen).

While Fred was “at it” he changed the air conditioning filters, repaired a door jam (don’t ask) and replaced our misters.  I love our backyard misters, but apparently my former gardener cut them.  I don’t know if it was deliberate or an accident but I am so glad I fired that gardener.

If you spend a lot of time in your yard during the summer, misters are a wonderful improvement.  And I am so happy to have mine back.  I don’t have all of the bills … but with the termite treatment, plumbing, and handyman it will be nearly $5,000.00.   If you are handy owning a home is less expensive, but unfortunately the Harbs are not handy and routine maintenance is part of our budget.
