A peek at a Realtor's home office
As Realtors work seven days a week, most real estate agents work out of their home to some degree or another. The problem with working out of the home is that it is easy to get distracted by family, housecleaning, cooking, etc.
My La Canada home has a detached pool house. George and the kids wanted to set it up as a media room which I thought was ridiculous.
One: We don’t need a media room, we have a family room
Two: Why walk outside to watch a movie?
I prevailed and the pool house is my home office. All of us use it to some degree or another. There are three desks and each has two phones (it’s easy to wait on hold when you have a second phone). Our oldest daughter will be taking an international business course in Torino this summer. Last weekend, she spent hours on the phone coordinating her air (using George’s American Express miles) and the two phones came in handy.
George typically starts his day at the computer in the pool house; he likes to check the online news. If he is going to John Harb Sewing late or not at all, it’s a great spot for him to check his emails and make a few calls.
For me, it’s ideal because I am able to start my morning early, respond to email, check the MLS (multiple listing service) and then walk the dogs. After that I make George breakfast and pack his lunch. I can then return to my home office without any further household interruptions.
My only distractions are the three dogs who love that I often work out of my home office.
