Proper Ice Maker Maintenance

Several years ago, George and I had our family room remodeled.  Our family room was an addition by a previous owner and the floor level was one awkward step down from living to family room.  Over the years several guests tripped and a few even fell.

Because we raised the floor level, the existing cherry wood wet bar had to be removed.  We replaced it and this time added an ice maker. I love ice but if you have never owned an ice maker you may not be aware that they are high maintenance.   Not long after installation the ice maker flooded all over my new hardwood floor.  I soon learned that proper ice maker maintenance suggests that the ice maker be emptied and cleaned twice a year.

For one year, I struggled with the six month cleaning ritual but finally decided to turn off the ice maker.  I will clean and reconnect before pool weather.  It is just too much bother.
