What's growing in your garden?

Recently I asked my Los Angeles Real Estate blog readers what they liked about their home.  It’s been a little quiet!  I shared with you that I love my yard, barbecue and pool.

Although it isn't much to brag about, I love my driveway garden! Because I have three dogs, I moved my herb garden to the driveway; that little patch of dirt between me and my neighbor’s home.  I appreciate the convenience of having a fresh supply of rosemary, mint, parsley, chives and thyme.  This weekend I will be replanting the basil and adding another sage plant.

Unfortunately my driveway garden doesn’t get enough sun for tomatoes, so I recently planted three plants in large plastic pots.  Ten years ago, we planted lemon and lime trees which are wonderful to have.  And a couple of years ago we planted apple, nectarine and peach (which just started to produce a little last year).

Anyone with even a small patio can at least have a small herb garden.  What’s growing in your garden?

My poor little garden is suffering with the crazy weather we've had so far this spring. But things are warming up and I hope my tomatoes start to take off! My herbs seem to be doing fine, luckily. I'm greedy with my small space and try to fit in so many things - peppers, radishes, carrots, peas, green beans... I really should just focus on herbs and tomatoes like you and get plenty to eat and share!

Tomatoes love heat. Cover the planting area with black or red plastic a couple of weeks before you intend to plant.

Having even a small garden will definitely provide benefits sooner than you know it. It is good to know that you have found an area for your lovely herbs. It is also a great idea to plant fruit trees, glad to know you had some to harvest already!
