I believe that owning a home is not just about the investment, your home is your refuge and you should be happy spending time there. Southern California homeowners love their back yards. And outdoor living is high on my list for my home’s favorite features.

Although, I don’t have the opportunity to enjoy it as much as I should, I love our pool.  We put it in when the girls were about six and seven, and have derived nearly 15 years of pleasure.  Although, we didn’t expect to recapture the cost of a swimming pool at time of sale, we knew we were going to be in this home for decades; the pool was for our pleasure.

I also love our outdoor barbecue and patio. We use this often and I expect it to pay for itself when we finally do sell our home.  And if doesn’t, it has saved us thousands of dollars in take out.

I think we have experienced a “shift” and herb and fresh vegetable gardens easily accessible to the kitchen will be great for future resale.  Think Murphy beds, recycling centers in the kitchen, and built in composte containers. If you are remodeling or building, think green. At the time you sell, you will be glad you did.
