LA Weekly Adventures

George’s aunt is a knitter and once a year I take her to Moskatels to buy yarn.  I took her last Saturday and apparently our economy is improving because Moskatels was so crowded that all of their shopping carts were in use.

Across the street is the Los Angeles Flower Mart and I bought lovely yellow orchids for $6.00 each.  And business at the Flower Mart was humming as well.   Then we drove towards China Town to Hollywood Nail Supply where I purchased acetone for $6.00 a gallon (its great nail polish remover).   The staff is friendly and their prices are great.

Previously when in the neighborhood, I have been tempted to stop in China Town for lunch but am always disappointed. My favorite Chinese food is found at Chi Dynasty. Jonathon Chi, owner of Chi Dynasty agreed to donate a $100 gift certificate to the Glendale YWCA fundraiser.  We then drove to Los Feliz picked up the YWCA’s gift certificate and had lunch and a Mai Tai.  If you miss the (fresh) fruity Mai Tai’s found in Hawaii, the Mai Tai’s at Chi’s are every bit as delicious.

Do you remember how proud I was of eliminating so much stuff from our closet?  And then my self-righteous remark: “George and I have agreed that neither one of us needs any more clothes; we’ll see who caves first.”

Saturday evening George and I attended a charity event in Hollywood and I was tempted by the silent auction…. Especially by the designer handbags with starting bids of 50% off retail.  And although I didn’t need another handbag, I greedily bid on a couple of bags and was the “winner” of a beautiful beige Ferragamao bag at 50% off retail.   It is exquisite, but shame on me, my only justification is that I have two daughters with whom I can share.

As far as the other silent auction items, there were a lot of trips… many to five star Mexico Resorts; very few bidders for the trips to Mexico and those were the bargains of the evening.

As always there are plenty of unique and interesting things for those of us fortunate enough to live in Southern California.  I hope you continue to enjoy all that Los Angeles has to offer.
