One closet down, how many more to reorganize?

As this is a real estate blog I like to discuss all aspects of home ownership including resale, preparing your home for sale (aka staging), and simply enjoying your home. My most read posts aren’t the ones dealing with real estate market statistics and facts. The most popular entries pertain to organizing tips, cleaning and decluttering.  Cleaning and de-cluttering continue to rank as the top suggested home improvement based on average cost and return on investment.

George returned from New York and he and I finished our closet reorganization.  His everyday clothes are in our master and his suits are in the guest closet.  Maybe next year, he and I can consolidate (again) and fit it all in our bedroom.   Although, we donated 1/4 of our clothes and accessories, it really could have been more.

The next closet to empty is the one in the guest bedroom.  We hung all of George’s suits there, but in a hurry (George was not too excited about this project).  Later this week or next, we I will empty the guest closet ,  clean it, and hang each suit jacket on one hanger with the matching trousers.

George and I have agreed that neither one of us needs any more clothes; we’ll see who caves first. This year, I am going to empty every closet in our home to clean, purge and reorganize.

Now that my closet is cleaned we can get on with the business of real estate statistics and learn how many homes in La Canada, Glendale, Pasadena and La Crescenta  sold in January and for how near the asking price.

I admire your ambition to de-clutter your place in 2011 (even---and especially---the closets). It's true that cleaning and de-cluttering give us the best return on our time and money invested when it comes to re-sale appeal and value.
As you clean, purge, and re-organize, remember to cover his suits with plastic dry-cleaner bags to keep them fresh and clean.

An organized and clutter free closet can be an added asset to a room. During an open house, if the residence is up for sale, neat closets can be attractive to prospect buyers.
