Good bones, what does that mean?
In real estate terminology what are good bones? Good bones are similar to a blank canvas, unspoiled, and ready to transform into a masterpiece. The criteria of a home with good bones:
1) A good floorplan
2) Architectural details
3) Lots of natural light
4) Opens well to the outdoors
I have sold many character and architectural homes over the years. Many were fixers, but most of the fixers had good bones. I sold a mid-century condo in Pasadena on Orange Grove which was a fixer but the unit had a wonderful floorplan, large sun filled rooms and great architectural features. Certainly a kitchen and bathroom can be remodeled (and to your taste) but if the rooms are cramped and dark it is more expensive and difficult to change. The Pasadena condo had good bones.
The home George and I purchased seventeen years ago had good bones, and was a total fixer. But the blueprint for a lovely home was there; our home had good bones.
