When purchasing real estate, future resale should be taken into consideration. Homes located in good school districts and in low crime districts offer better resale opportunities.  In a hot real estate market, buyers are not as particular, but in a less heated housing market home buyers are more sensitive to location and neighborhood.




Burbank
In 2009 the index crime went down, primarily in the area of non-violent property crime. There were 320 less crimes committed in 2009, amounting to an 8% decrease.
Burglary was down 15% and auto theft decreased by 35%, while thefts remained unchanged.
Unfortunately, there was an 8% increase of violent crime (murder, manslaughter, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault) committed in 2009 than in 2008, which amounts to an 8% increase.

Murder, rape, aggravated assault, robbery, burglary, auto theft and arson showed a downward trend in La Canada Flintridge in 2009.
The city had one homicide in 2009, the area’s first since May 2004
Burglaries have decreased in La Canada 35.26% from 2008 (156) to 2009 (101). Residential burglaries were down from 122 to 69.
There was a reduction of aggravated assaults, from 15 victims in 2008 to 10 in 2009.
There were nine apparent arsons in La Canada in 2009, up from five last year
