Yes, you are welcome to sell a dirty home
My first date with George was a blind date. I had my hair done, polished my nails, applied make up and put on a pretty dress.
Sometimes people confuse me. Most people wouldn’t go on a date in dirty clothes or try to sell a car with MacDonald’s wrappers strewn all over. So, I wonder, why would anyone want to sell a dirty home?
No I do not make this stuff up! Earlier this year I listed a home where the father had been remarried and there were heirs from both wives. One set of heirs were adamant that selling the home AS IS meant AS IS. They did not want to lift the carpet to expose the hardwood floors, they did not want the home cleaned or the windows professionally washed.
The home was vacant, I was able to arrange the work, and it was not about the money. It was about the AS IS. With a $1500 investment, I thought they would have sold the home for $10,000 - $15,000 more.
I offered my advice and one set of heirs chose to argue. I attempted to convince them of the benefits of having the home at least cleaned prior to going on the market. I asked if they were selling a car if they would at least run it through the car wash. But arguing with my clients is not part of my job description. My job is to offer advice and my clients are not required to heed it.

At the end of the day, each home seller has different needs and goals. Some wish to sell their home for the highest possible price and are willing to put in a little effort in order to achieve that goal. And others don’t want to be bothered.
