When George and I purchased our  La Canada home in 1993, we had hoped to put in a swimming pool.  After an extensive remodel, we regrouped and several years later could begin to seriously think about the pool. 

But what style? I was very intrigued with the automatic pool covers which supposedly can support an elephant. This cover also keeps the pool warm without the expense of heating. 



As both our daughters could swim, we felt secure about the pool.  There would be rules: no swimming without supervision and as they were still under ten, they were not allowed outside anywhere near the pool without supervision. No toes in the pool, walking by the pool was also not allowed. 

We met with the pool man, and my youngest daughter handed him one of her school folders with a picture of a rain forest and asked if he could make the pool look like that; we ended up with a rock pool.  And it is beautiful.

There is no automatic pool cover which can fit a free form pool, so our pool is only comfortable in the heat of summer. George & I had discussed solar panels several years ago, but didn’t act on it and have since put on a new roof.

But there are solar rings.  My home stager Charis has them and I will be buying mine next spring and expect to add a few more months to our swimming time.

Oh, and if my home were on the market for sale, I would take the solar rings out and store them in the garage.
