Reality TV and those real estate shows
My first buyer’s agent was Meagan Hughes. As a student, Meagan worked as a tutor for my daughters. She assisted them with their homework, school projects and even talent shows. Meagan was an only child and soon filled the role of big sister.
After a few years, Meagan got the real estate bug. She wanted to work for Harb & Co. and thought she would be great at writing ad copy. After working for me writing ad copy, preparing reports, and helping with phone calls Meagan studied and passed her real estate exam. She became my first buyer’s agent. She had a passion for people and homes and to this day Meagan Hughes Luce, is a successful real estate agent (but now in San Diego and married).

Not long before Meagan relocated to San Diego, Meagan and I were approached by the series House Hunters. The filming would not begin until she had a buyer in escrow. It makes sense as some home buyers take a very long time to find a home. I appreciate that House Hunters can’t be filming a buyer and then wait a year to finish the episode.
So, here’s what actually happened. Meagan was already in escrow and her buyer agreed to appear on House Hunters. The house they were in escrow with was vacant and my listing; my clients agreed that they could film the show. She needed to come up with two other homes, which the buyer could later reject on the show. I had another vacant listing which Meagan was able to use and somehow or other she found a third home for the buyer to reject.
So the truth is:
Meagan and her buyer were already in escrow
The rejected homes were never homes that her client had even considered
So much for Reality TV.
