El Tovar, the Poster Child for Mansionization in Glendale

I checked Wikipedia for a definition of mansionization and they didn't have one, so I came up with my own: Mansionization is the invasion of conforming neighborhoods by mcmansions which dwarf their neighbors.

You’ve seen the overbuilt homes towering over the neighborhood.  Imagine how the neighbor feels not being able to catch even one ray of sunlight?  Mansionization was brought to the forefront in Glendale during the 1990’s.  Do you recall Glendale’s El Tovar controversy?   After 442 days on the market it finally closed escrow for $2,586,000; originally listed in May of 2008 for $3,950,000.

And what the heck does El Tovar mean?  I tried to translate it without success, so I phoned the El Tovar Hotel in the Grand Canyon and was told that their hotel was named after Pedro Tovar (the explorer). Thus, the translation: “That Tovar’ but since I am by no means bi-lingual don’t take my word for it.
