Is the glass in your Los Angeles home tempered (safety) glass?

Prior to my current German shepherd, Kanto, I had two shepherds, Aladdin and Jasmine.  They were not as well behaved as Kanto.

Jasmine, (the female) was especially protective and would not allow anyone to linger in front of our home… You could walk by, but she insisted you keep moving.  One time, she jumped through the bay window in the living room, once through the glass the lingerers quickly departed without further incident.

The bigger problem was that the glass was not tempered/safety glass and it cut her.  After this incident, I hired Buchanan Glass in Glendale who replaced each pane with safety glass.  Generally, windows which are low to the floor, shower doors, and sliding glass doors pose a hazard if someone were to walk, run, fall (or jump) through.

I spoke to Susan with Buchanan Glass and she gave me a little history:  After numerous life threatening incidents of both children and adults, safety glass was introduced to residential building in the 1960’s and soon carried over to commercial buildings as well. To determine if your glass is safety, look for an etched emblem in any of the corners.  If it isn’t, safety/tempered, a less expensive alternative to replacing the glass is to have a film applied.
