The home seller is unreasonable!

My father always always says “fair is a four letter word”.

About fifteen years ago ago, I had delightful first time buyers referred to me from a past client.  Although they were more familiar with the San Fernando Valley and not certain of the Foothills,  they were intrigued by our award winning schools.  But they didn’t want a stucco box, they wanted something special.

We found a home in Glendale's Mountain Oaks neighborhood in the La Crescenta school district; at one time the home was a hunting lodge.  It was a sweet home and charm filled.  All was well until we did our inspection… there were foundation problems and the seller refused to negotiate.   My clients purchased the home (paid for the foundation repair) and a decade later are still enthralled with their home.

During the 90’s downturn, I had other delightful buyers referred to me and they too had sellers unwilling to budge either during negotiations or with valid (chimney, foundation) inspection issues.  These clients too forged ahead with their purchase and are still in love with their home.

The moral of the story, when you are buying a home, purchase one you love, if you don’t love it, walk away.  When you do love it, don’t allow an unreasonable seller to ruin it for you.

    How right your father is!
Now, let me tell you a story about when we were about to purchase a triplex in a good neighborhood in reasonably good condition back in the 80s. We offered and were given a counter offer and it ended up just a $5,000 difference in negotiated price and out of our stubborn nature we backed away from the deal. I have always remembered that transaction and have learned what you say is true! If you love the property don't let foolish pride get in your way.
