Los Angeles Real Estate Agent needs your help!

Natalie sold one last home prior to having her baby.  The inspection was yesterday, the owners have a very unique and dramatic Liftomatic pool cover from the 1960’s.  It’s very George Jetson, at the push of a button the hydraulic pool cover opens and transforms into a patio cover.

The cover closes slowly, one side at a time. Once closed, it cannot be lifted except by its hydraulic mechanism.
This morning at 8:15, I received a message from the seller informing me that the pool cover stalled and quit (translation: it won’t open).  My question is, does anyone know who can service this Liftomatic hydraulic pool cover?

I just bought a house with this pool cover and luckily, it's "stuck" open. I have someone with a hydraulic and electrical background looking into servicing it and getting it working again. I'll post again if we are successful and get you contact information. I'd also like to know if anyone out there has had theirs serviced, and by whom. Thanks!

I appreciate any contact info. One side of my cover is slooowly falling. Luckily it's too cold to swim now, but really need to get this back up so the pool can be cleaned regularly.

Regretfully, we've decided to scrap this pool cover and replace it with another system. After a great deal of research and contacting the only person he could find in Southern California who has successfully brought a Liftomatic back to life, my contact STRONGLY suggested I remove and replace it. I would love to restore mine and am dragging my feet on the demo just in case there's someone out there who can fix it for less than double the cost of a new high-end pool cover. I just can't justify paying that much (or more since we don't know exactly what's wrong) to fix the thing. I hope you all are having better luck.

I found someone that will be looking at mine next week. He sounds pretty knowledgeable about hydraulics and electrical, so I am very hopeful. I will let you know know how it goes. Just this past summer we repainted the cover, so we'd really like to keep it working.

Well I have someone that will be fixing my pool cover motor. Looks like one of the motors (one for each side) has gone out so it needs to be replaced. Unfortunately, to replace it (new motor and installation) is running me $1,500. The up side is that this should last me a very long time. Here is the contact info for the guy I found in case you're interested.

My dad used to install those pool covers back in the early 80's. Unfortunately by the late 80's the business went under and that was that. He doesn't know of anyone else that could install or fix them, the business consisted of him and 2 other guys. 1 of the guys is incarcerated and he has no clue where the other guy is.

Since my last post, I contacted Stuart Davis and after talking to him, we decided to install new motors. We changed out the opaque fiberglass for a clear, smoke colored polycarbonate that will last longer, and look better. I can't believe I almost had the pool cover demolished. I am completely happy with the money I spent to get this working again!

I'd love to see pics of that opaque fiberglass you installed. We just painted the old fiberglass which was a great improvement. Who swapped out the fiberglass for you?
