What is your Father’s Day Tradition? The Los Angeles To Vegas Run

Years ago, my parents moved from Glendale, California to Washington State.  For the past six or seven years, my father’s day tradition has been taking my father-in-law to Las Vegas.  He loves it!  I sometimes bring my daughters or one daughter and a girlfriend.

In my opinion, (after 9/11) it’s simpler to drive from the Los Angeles vicinity to Las Vegas than departing from Burbank Airport. You know the drill, you arrive nearly an hour ahead of departure, check the bags, (because liquids, such as cosmetics in carry ons are a problem) then take the luggage to screening.  Upon arrival, you wait for the bags, transportation of some sort to the hotel and so it goes.  It also seems that the return flights from Las Vegas consistently run late.

Depends on your speed, and how frequently you stop and the duration, but your drive should be under five hours.  And, you have the flexibility of arriving and departing at your leisure.  The next question is where to stay.  I personally prefer the smaller hotels, such as the old Desert Inn, but most of those are long gone.  (If you have a recommendation, I am interested).

We stay at Caesar's Palace; the negative is that it is a mega hotel; the plus is that it provides easy access to the Forum Shops. After years of staying at Caesar’s I finally checked out the spa.  No treatments, just after the treadmill at their gym, I “took the waters”.  you can pay for a pass if you don’t choose a spa treatment. Supposedly a take off on the Roman Baths.  It's wonderful and a much better value if you do have a treatment.

Happy Father's Day!
