Memorial Day in the Los Angeles Foothills
For those of you looking for something to do, La Canada is a flurry of activity this entire weekend for the Fiesta Day celebration.
When we moved from Glendale to La Canada, I was surprised by the scope of this small town's Fiesta Day Parade. It seems that every child in La Canada participates, when my daughters were in girl scouts, we rode the fire truck. Most of the community turns out to watch; the highlight is typically the planes (don’t know the type) flying overhead. If you are looking for something to do with a small town flair, bring a chair, some sun block and join us.
Due to the Memorial Day holiday, I was correct in my assumption that it would be a quiet real estate week. All of my listings are in escrow, except the Pasadena mid-century and there are no showings for the Spanish Colonial until Tuesday’s Broker’s Tour. George and I have a wedding and dinner to attend this weekend; I am hoping for one quiet pool day over the extended weekend. The weather may not be in the 90’s which doesn’t bode well for our unheated pool, but a day in a chaise lounge with a good book is always welcome.

Los Angeles home buyers, if you desire a pool, it is certainly less expensive to purchase a home with an existing pool than for you to pay the cost of installing one. But if your dream home doesn’t offer a pool and you can afford the installation, it may be worth the expense. You will certainly enjoy having a pool. According to CNN Money Magazine “In some areas, especially hot-weather spots like Arizona and Florida, a pool is a must-have. In the Southwest, adding one boosts your home's value by 11 percent on average, according to a National Association of Realtors study”.
