Even while on vacation, the real estate wheels keep turning
Natalie is now dealing with another damaged chimney (discovered during the inspection) approximate fix $15,000. This seems to be the most common major defect we find inspecting Los Angeles area homes. Often home buyers have an inspection and then inspector specialists (such as chimney) come in for further evaluation.
While Natalie is busier than normal during what should be a quieter week, I am having a wonderful time. The treadmills have their own television! I had a pilates class yesterday, and George and I took a walk along the bike path. Then it was beach time most of the day and of course the mai tais are delicious.
Some interesting observations:
We noticed windmills on the neighboring island Lanai
And about the economy in Hawaii:
The woman in the jewelery store told me this has been one of her best months yet (with phone orders from previous clients). No jewelery for me, just looking.
The hotel staff claims their business is down approximately 50% - (shock for Easter week - there are a number of families)
The spa and nail technicians claim their business is the same.
On to the YWCA (remember I am on the fundraising committee). I have been soliciting items for the silent auction. You will be amazed when I tally which local firms are generous to local charities and which are misers. I am shocked, and for those who are generous, your continuous support of community endeavors is heartwarming and I am will name names.

Sigh. Chimneys. Ours just got the thumbs down (in our rental) and the landlord is going to just brick it shut. We see that a lot in rentals and now we know why.

This is a dangerous solution, because it does not address the problem. The chimney if not repaired should be removed - if there is an earthquake a "ton of bricks" could fall.
