2009 Home Improvement and Design Trends

Hem lines change with the economy and so do home design trends. As this is a real estate blog, we’ll discuss design trends. 

What design trends are in store for 2009?  Furniture and household goods with clean simple lines, green products and home improvements which will encourage us to embrace our home and life style.

During the Depression, Americans had tired of the over the top Victorian ginger bread and longed for a simpler life.  Modern design flourished in the United States.  Russel Wright revolutionized the American home and the way people lived in their homes. His dinnerware, furniture, appliances, and textiles were affordable and achieved his design concept of  "easier living," a unique American lifestyle that was gracious yet contemporary and informal. 

In the bleak 1940s, Charles and Ray Eames recognized the need for inexpensive high quality furniture.   Inexpensive Italian design also flourished during the aftermath of World War II. It’s back to basics, less is more. Let’s all embrace a simpler life.
