Los Angeles Earthquake July 29, 2008
Well that was a jolt: 5.8 magnitude Southwest of Chino Hills - hope there was little damage. Because it wasn't too big of a jolt in La Canada.

Shake Rattle and Roll

(After Katrina), in the event of the "big one", let's not rely on FEMA. What Angelenos need to know about earthquake preparedness:
*LAFD has an excellent disaster preparedness resource from first aid kit to supplies you should have on hand.
*The Disaster Center has an online earthquake preparedness guide
*IF you need a retrofit or just an evaluation - check HarbsList under seismic
And for those of you with equity in your home, you may want to contact your insurance company and discuss earthquake coverage. From what I understand the deductible is hefty - if you have $500,000 damage you would get paid for 85% but the check is typically payable to you and your lender. Call your insurance company for specifics - I am the Realtor not the insurer

What about pet food? Candles? Batteries? Have you done anything? There are numerous resources that will itemize what you should have on hand. My favorite is Melinda Lee’s Emergency Guide. Print her list and start storing at least a week’s worth of necessities for your home. It’s not that difficult: Week one: necessities such as water, pet food, ...
