I received a call from a friend and client regarding suspicious activity in the home next door.  (take my word for it, it is unusual activity).

The facts: The neighbor’s home was purchased in 2006.  The owner’s moved out quite awhile ago; the home is not listed in the multiple listing service and an appraiser was recently there.  The home is not presently in default, although they may be late on their payments.  They previously had a notice of default but cured (paid) it. The owner has a first and a credit line with the same lender.  They owe more than their home is worth, and don't qualify for a refinance.

I researched the home and learned the lender information and suggested to my client that she contact the buyer’s lender.  The owner may have a short pay scam going and my clients prefer new and "honest" neighbors.  If you suspect mortgage fraud you can report it at the FBI’s website
