I have been showing property heavily this week – and so many of the homes require updating. Since the war in Iraq, Hurricane Katrina, and the further development of China and India’s infrastructures, prices on concrete, steel and home improvements in general, continue to escalate.

In comparing homes, those redone and others not, my job is to educate my client as to the approximate cost of a remodel.  Obviously a home buyer will want to get a more accurate estimate from their contractor prior to removing their investigative contingency.

My “ball park” figures from one of my contractors:  
Modest Kitchen remodel:  $50,000
Modest Bathroom remodel: $10,000

WOW! Prices have gone up – anyone comparing prices on appliances from several years ago can certainly attest to it!
