Spotlight on the city of La Canada, 91011
According to the city of La Canada’s web site: “A low-key lifestyle centered around children and community is central to the city's 20,318 residents. The City's public school system consistently ranks in the top five percent of California schools. Houses of worship and a variety of service organizations are an integral part of the community. Volunteers contribute more than 250,000 hours to civic causes each year."
Many families move to La Canada so that they can forgo private schools and have their children attend public schools. La Cañada Unified School District received an Academic Performance Index score of 915 (API Growth 2007), the third highest in the state for a K-12 school district. Certainly La Canada schools are highly rated; but another factor that some don’t consider is the simplicity of children going to school with their neighbors. No more long drives on the freeway for birthday parties, play dates and sleepovers, nearly everyone lives within a 3 mile drive. I have known La Canada families that had their children and the neighbor’s children attend kindergarten thru high school together (still as neighbors).
This is a community where it is common to see both young and old walking and taking the bus.
Serious crime stats are low 
Although the average sales price is approximately $1,600,000 homes for sale under $1,000,000 are becoming more common.
