Perhaps because timeshares have suffered from so much negative publicity, the new thing in Mexico is fractional ownership.  We could purchase a 1/7th interest in a condo next door to the resort were we are staying, with golf course views and beach club access. The price is approximately $200,000 for about 2000 sq ft. We could vacation here seven weeks a year. 

Considering, the hefty price tag, I can’t determine why we or anyone would think this is the way to go. There are much less expensive alternatives in Mexico.   I love being here and having maid service, the meals and drinks are included in the price we paid.  Perhaps there are some positive tax implications….

But for me, I wouldn’t want to be here or anywhere else 7 weeks out of the year. While it is lovely to get away it is wonderful to be home.
