Had dinner with George and some friends last night, including Diane, the friend I went to Rome with.  One of our guests who is in his 20’s said he goes to sleep with his Blackberry, so he can respond to emails if he gets them from his boss (who is important).  I was shocked; in his opinion his generation will be “available” 24 hours a day.

I am still appalled; I thought I was brought up with a strong work ethic.  I am “available" about 10 hours a day – seven days a week which should be more than adequate.  I know Americans take less vacation time than most other nationalities but I certainly hope that “our friend” is one of a rare breed that needs to be “available” 24 hours a day.
